Polypropylene is made from propylene gas polymerization in the presence of a catalyst system (usually a Ziegler-Natta catalyst or a metallocene catalyst). Polymerization conditions (temperature, pressure, and reactant concentration) are set by the polymer grade to be produced.
Various production processes exist, but there are some general similarities. They are carried out in the gas phase (fluidized bed or stirred reactor) or in the liquid phase process (slurry or solution). Gas-phase polymerization is economical and flexible and can accommodate multiple catalysts. It is a more commonly used technology in modern polypropylene production plants.
The powder obtained is finally transferred to a powder silo, which is then converted into an additive that contains a uniform dispersion over the entire range.
